Bar-Ilan University and The Zuckerman Institute are calling for nominations for postdoctoral scholars from North America for the Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program for 2022-2023. The deadline is March 31, 2022, so don’t delay your application!
The Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program attracts high-achieving postdoctoral scholars from premier universities in the United States and Canada to do research in STEM areas and interdisciplinary topics relating to STEM in Israel. Once they complete their research, many Zuckerman postdocs are expected to accept faculty positions at top North American universities, weaving a network of academic collaboration and goodwill that will greatly benefit US-Israeli scientific cooperation.
Dr. David Greenberg is a neuroscientist, psychologist, and musician. He is also a Zuckerman Postdoctoral Scholar in social neuroscience at Bar-Ilan University in the Interdisciplinary Department of Social Sciences and Department of Music. His research examines music at the intersection of social science, neuroscience, genetics, and clinical treatment.
“I chose Bar-Ian University to work with leading researchers in the fields of neuroscience, music, and psychology. They include Prof Ehud Bodner, Prof Avi Gilboa, and Prof Ilanit Gordon,” Dr. Greenberg said.
“In just two years (most of which was during the COVID-19 pandemic), I published 17 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like Nature Communications, gave 16 conference presentations or talks, and presented a TEDx talk. This could only have been achieved with a great team of support around me.

Zuckerman Scholars enjoy programming and activities organized especially for them by Bar-Ilan Universities and the Zuckerman Institute in Israel, including touring, educational experiences, and social programs. These activities are designed to strengthen the scholars’ knowledge of and connection to Israel, cultivate an esprit de corps, exchange ideas, and foster new relationships.
Candidates for the Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program are assessed based on their academic and research achievements, as well as on personal merit and leadership qualities, without regard to race, religion, gender, ethnicity, or age. Recipients may not accept other scholarships concurrently with the Zuckerman STEM scholarship.
Five postdoctoral scholarships will be given out to successful candidates at Bar-Ilan University for the 2022-2023 academic year in two tracks.
- Israeli University Postdoc Track: A two-year postdoctoral scholarship where scholars conduct research exclusively at Bar-Ilan University. If circumstances allow, Zuckerman Postdoctoral scholarships may be renewed on a competitive basis for a third year.
- Joint North American-Israeli Postdoc Track: A two-year joint postdoctoral scholarship where scholars spend part of their time at Bar-Ilan University and the other part at a US or Canadian university. Scholars in this track can decide how to divide their time.
Postdoctoral candidates must be citizens of the United States or Canada or have a documented status that allows them to study and work in the US.
Candidates must hold a PhD degree from a leading American or Canadian university, or if still studying for a PhD, must submit their PhD thesis before October 1, 2022. They should be planning to return to the United States or Canada to compete for an academic position.
