Bar-Ilan University Researchers Link Elderly Who Give Away Money to Early Alzheimer’s Disease
To help protect older adults from financial exploitation, researchers are working to understand who is most at risk. New findings from a study conducted by the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Bar Ilan University, recently published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (Increased Financial Altruism is Associated with Alzheimer’s Disease Neurocognitive Profile in Older Adults), suggest that willingness to give away money could be linked to the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Dolly, the Cloned Sheep
On July 5, 1996, the sheep Dolly came into the world. She was the first mammal to be cloned using the process of somatic cell nuclear transfer, in which a donor nucleus from a somatic (body) cell is implanted in an enucleated oocyte (egg cell). International Asteroid Day
On the morning of June 30, 1908, an asteroid hit the banks of the Tunguska River in the forests of eastern Siberia. The blast released 1,000 times more energy than the atom bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, flattening trees within a 25-kilometer radius. Fortunately, the human casualties were few, as the area was uninhabited. International Asteroid Day marks the anniversary of that huge impact event. The Face of History in the Digital Album
The “Israel Albums” project is designed to extract old albums from oblivion and present them to the public in new and intriguing ways. The aim is to provide an overall picture of the challenges of the period and the cultural and ideological perceptions of the State of Israel. An Israeli study recently found evidence of an old theory: in nature, ecosystems either have few species with strong bonds or many species with weak bonds – just like in government coalitions.
