Academics planted the seeds of collaboration in Bahrain recently, strengthening ties started with the Abraham Accords. Bar-Ilan University (BIU) was one of four Israeli universities to visit Bahrain at the end of June on a mission to develop partnerships with academic institutions in the country. Over the past year, under the guidance of Rabbanit Devorah Evron, BIU’s campus spiritual leader, BIU’s International School has offered international students an experiential journey into the Jewish-Israeli calendar and the holidays and lifecycle events that fill it. The Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy for 2021 has been conferred on Prof. Gilbert Daniel Nessim by Italy’s president “for his remarkable contribution to the development of scientific and technological innovation and for his significant role in promoting academic cooperation between Italy and Israel.” Read More.

During her first official visit to Israel at the beginning of May 2022, Ms. Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, Kosovo’s Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, spent time at Bar-Ilan University’s Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA) and the Kofkin Faculty of Engineering, meeting with Prof. Arie Zaban, BIU’s President, Prof. Zeev Zalevsky, Dean of the Kofkin Faculty, and Prof. Dror Fixler, Nano Institute’s Director, among others. Every month, Bar-Ilan University’s International School arranges various events for international students. Although there were no Jewish holidays in May, students were treated to an assortment of entertaining experiences this past month. These included an Israeli Night to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day; an Open Stage Night; and a tour of Haifa in the north of Israel. Read about these exciting events here.

Bar-Ilan University’s offer to help researchers, lecturers, and students from Ukraine to continue learning, exploring, and developing their research, work, and studies at BIU has attracted many requests as well as a surprise request from a current BIU Master’s student to assist the Ukrainian Math Olympiad team.
