Bar-Ilan University Welcomes New Vice Presidents Amidst Farewell Celebrations

In a vibrant event held in October 2024, Bar-Ilan University celebrated the invaluable contributions of outgoing Deputy President, Prof. Moshe Lewenstein, and outgoing Vice President for Research, Prof. Shulamit Michaeli, while warmly welcoming a new cohort of visionary leaders poised to steer the university into a future of innovation and global collaboration.

A Legacy of Achievement

Prof. Moshe Lewenstein, who served as Deputy President for seven transformative years, was lauded for his pioneering work in establishing the International School, an advanced BI system, and the BIU Youth Center. His leadership in projects like the Responsa Project and the construction of a new Computer Science building has left a lasting impact on the university. Prof. Lewenstein’s journey continues at the helm of the Youth Center, aiming to elevate it to new heights.

Prof. Shulamit Michaeli, the Vice President for Research, has been a beacon of inspiration for researchers across the campus. Her dedication to fostering academic excellence through encouraging publications in leading journals and securing research grants has set a high standard for the university. She will now channel her expertise into leading Bar-Ilan’s role in the new HealthTech Valley initiative.

A New Era of Leadership

Introducing the new vice presidents, Prof. Arie Zaban, President of Bar-Ilan University, emphasized the strategic focus on addressing contemporary and future challenges. “These days, we are taking a significant step forward in developing all the fundamental elements, the cornerstones upon which the vision of Bar-Ilan University stands,” stated Prof. Zaban. He further highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting, “The partnerships we forge today will define our impact tomorrow. Each of our new vice presidents brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives that are essential for our continued growth.”

Prof. Zeev Zalevsky will assume the newly created position of VP for Industrial Relations to oversee collaborations with industry, the health system, security, education, and government. Prof. Rivka Tuval-Mashiach has been appointed VP for International Affairs and the Third Mission, and will advance areas such as international relations, Jewish identity and, Diaspora Jewry. Her work will be pivotal in enhancing the university’s social impact and reinforcing Jewish identity. Ronnie Vinnikov, with a rich background in fundraising, joins as VP for Global Resource Development, tasked with building bridges between the university and global partners to sustain its scientific and research endeavors.
