Hi! I am Dr. Rosy from India, and I graduated in 2021 with a postdoc in Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage from Bar-Ilan University (BIU). I chose Israel for its innovative research, especially the work of Prof. Doron Aurbach (a leading electrochemist and physical chemist).
BIU’s supportive International School made me feel at home, especially during COVID-19. BIU offers an excellent research environment and research facilities. My time at BIU, especially in the lab of Prof. Malachi Noked, nurtured me as a scientist and groomed me as an academician. This experience has been instrumental in shaping my credentials as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) in Varanasi, India.
Beyond academics, I cherish the memories of celebrating Indian and Israeli festivals, enjoying Shabbat dinners, and exploring Israel’s unique landscapes—from snow-capped mountains to beaches and deserts, all within a short distance.
One unforgettable experience at BIU was a conversation with my professor about Israel’s unique problem-solving mindset. While visiting the Technion in Haifa, we discussed a desalination assembly. During the conversation, he said, “If you have a problem you cannot live with, you have to solve it.”
This short conversation made me understand something interesting about Israeli culture—Israelis don’t adapt or adjust; they find innovative solutions to their problems. This moment changed my perspective on research and life. Since then, I always try to solve the problems and the root causes rather than adjusting and learning to live with them.
During my postdoc tenure, I was honored to receive the Colman-Soref Excellence Fellowship in 2017, the PBC Fellowship for Outstanding Postdocs from 2017 to 2020, and the Intel 2020 Excellence Award for Outstanding Female Scientist. I was also listed as a thought leader by Azo Materials.
BIU gave me a solid career foundation and a new outlook on the world.
