Program Overview

BIU’s Faculty of Law is well-known for its groundbreaking legal and interdisciplinary research and excellent teaching while deeply connecting to Israeli society and promoting a concept of law that concerns communities, relationships, and the advancement of social justice. Dialogue and cooperation, positive and creative thinking, complex training, and communication are encouraged.

Areas of innovation and special expertise include religion and law, sustainability and environmental justice, family law, law and technology, regulation, conflict resolution and negotiation.

The faculty has an extensive clinical set-up and research centers that promote social justice, which are involved in deep processes of change, growth, and development in Israeli society while making a deep connection between theory and practice.

BIU’s Law Faculty has extensive international links and exchange agreements with some of the leading schools in the United States, Europe, Canada, and China.

Our faculty members, many of whom are graduates of Ivy league and other top universities worldwide, are at the forefront of research in Israel and internationally and are regularly invited to lecture and teach at some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

The Faculty of Law has chosen to define itself through excellence and innovation in research and teaching, alongside a strong commitment to Israeli law and society.

The pass rate of our students in the Israeli Bar exam is around 98%.

In our new LLB program for English speakers, the students will study 3 disciplinary courses in English in addition to Ulpan studies during their first year.

    The Degree Program

    Are you fascinated by the law? Are you a staunch human rights activist? Do you believe everyone has the right to be equal under the law? What to find out how the law works and how it relates to other areas such as business, the media, politics, criminology, and more? Then a law degree at Bar-Ilan University is a great option.

    This degree will provide you with tools to develop your analytical thinking. You will learn to think like a lawyer and to express yourself in writing and in litigation or negotiation. The program includes theoretical courses and research studies, hands-on and practical experience through workshops and legal clinics.

    Join our highly sought-after, four year program in a leading Law Faculty )first year in English)* and gain the knowledge and experience that will enable you to work in any field of law you choose.

    Note

    • Our graduates are assisted in finding inhouse placement for the internship period required by Israeli Bar.
    • In the UK, California** and New York, LLB graduates from Israel are eligible to take Bar exams. In other common-law legal systems, they may be required to take further complementary education such as studying for a local LLM (Master of Laws). (**In California, a legal attorney certificate is also required in order to take the Bar exam.)
    • *During the first year of the degree, the students will study 3 disciplinary courses in English in addition to Ulpan studies

      Admission Requirements

      Holders of a previous degree can apply for admission based on the following criteria:

      • An average of 85 or above in the previous degree without a psychometric exam, or an average of 80 or above with a psychometric score of at least 600.
      • In both cases, the data is passed on to a faculty admissions committee, which is authorized to accept the best candidates.
      • If the application is approved by the committee, the studies are shortened to three years instead of four years, and there are exemptions (up to 12 points at the discretion of the committee) from elective courses.

      Recommendations (If have)

      Note: Non-English-speaking students who have graduated from high school in a non-English-speaking country are required to show proficiency in English in order to be accepted to the International BA Program. For students who did not score high enough on the relevant exams, there is a requirement to take English as a Foreign Language courses. For more information on English language exams and grades, please see “Admission Requirements.”

        Core Requirements

        During the first and second years, students learn about the basic fields of the law – contracts, criminal law, public law, torts, and more.

        In third year, students can choose a few focused study tracks, which include law and technology, business law, criminal law, public law, legal impact, and private law, among others.

        Program Credits

        In addition to the credits needed for your Law studies, the following are required to complete your degree:

        10 Credits in Judaic Studies*

        3 Credits in General Studies**

        *Judaic Studies courses are academic courses in a variety of fields within the Faculty of Jewish Studies and are offered through The School of Basic Jewish Studies. All Jewish students are required to take some Judaic Studies courses.

        Students who are not Jewish and would like to convert these 10 credits to General Studies courses should contact their program coordinator.

        **General Studies courses are any course offered in the university (more than 6,000) that is not related to your major (or double major) and is not Judaic Studies. Students with a minimum level 4 Hebrew are permitted to take courses in Hebrew, should they choose.

          Two-Part Language Program

          This degree program is aimed at students whose goal is to learn and study in Hebrew. During the first year, students take all their courses in English while participating in a mandatory, intensive Hebrew Ulpan (language course). After completing the first year, students will integrate into the Hebrew program. By the end of the program, students must have completed approx. 800-hours of Hebrew.

          The cost of each ulpan level is 3,500 NIS

          Note: In some programs, students will need to start their Hebrew Ulpan during the summer semester before the beginning of their degree and continue during the summer semester at the end of the first year. Completing the Hebrew language requirement with a passing grade (up to level 4) is required before continuing the program.

            Olim Students
            Integrating Olim Students

            Bar-Ilan University welcomes students who have made Aliyah (immigrated to Israel) and looks forward to accompanying them on their academic journey. Our aim is to ensure that all olim (immigrant) students have everything they need to succeed in their studies and have a rewarding and entertaining life on campus.

            Support for Olim Students

            BIU has partnered with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration (MOIA) and the Israel Student Authority (ISA) to facilitate the smooth absorption of olim students and help them integrate into Israeli society.

            The Student Authority supports students who choose to make Aliyah or are already in Israel by providing them with assistance to enable them to succeed in their studies.

            * Eligibility conditions are subject to the basic assistance rules of the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration as well as the current guidelines and procedures of the Israel Student Authority.
